Mel is currently the clinical director at Colorado “I Have a Dream” Foundation (CIHAD), where she works to enhance and promote youth mental health and social emotional services to all Dreamers a STRIVE Prep – Ruby Hill. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado and is a Nationally Certified Counselor. Mel has years of experience providing individual, family and group therapy to clients with a wide range of severe emotional and behavioral issues; working in residential, school and in-home settings. Mel strives to work with all children and families through a trauma, social justice and culturally informed lens. To do this, she uses client-centered, strength-based and evidenced-based approaches in therapy.
Mel’s professional experience has allowed her to work with people from diverse racial and economic backgrounds and presenting clinical issues such as complex trauma, sexual abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, depression, suicidality, attachment-issues, immigration and acculturation, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, aggressive behavior, drug and alcohol abuse, incarceration, self-harm, ADHD, bi-polar, defiant behavior and the stress of living in poverty.
Mel has a master’s degree in Mental Health and Counseling from Boston College. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Oregon.
