CUNEYT A. AKAY

Cuneyt A. Akay is a shareholder in the firm’s White Collar Defense & Special Investigations practice, focusing his practice on international compliance matters including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the UK Bribery Act. Cuneyt has extensive experience in conducting internal investigations, designing anti-corruption compliance policies and procedures, and implementing compliance program enhancements.

As a member of the Litigation and Government Litigation practice groups, Cuneyt has also experience representing clients in complex civil litigation, class actions, and in appellate proceedings in both state and federal courts throughout the country. Cuneyt also represents clients in various governmental matters, including challenges to voter‐approved constitutional amendments, election law issues, ballot initiatives, campaign finance, and administrative proceedings.

RAMON BARGAS

Ramon is a Principal of the RazrGroup, a Realtor team and investment group of Keller Williams Realty Urban Elite.  Through a personalized approach to real estate, Ramon provides sound advice and guidance to empower his clients through real estate investments.  He understands the worth of a strong community and the relationship of real estate and as such he is an active contributor to his community.

Ramon has been active in supporting education initiatives for many years.  He served on neighborhood school turn-around committees, he worked for the Denver Public Schools, he served on school funding committees, he was board President of the Adolescent Counseling Exchange (ACE) / Community Challenge School (CCS), an alternative education school and he is an Executive Board Member of the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation.

Robert Cohen is the Chairman and CEO of The IMA Financial Group, Inc. The IMA Financial Group is a diversified financial services company which is currently comprised of four primary businesses. IMA, Inc. is a retail insurance broker, offering a full range of risk management-related products. Z. VANESSA DAVISON

Vanessa co-founded several financial firms and served as a turn-around executive for three additional firms. She began her career in the late 1990s, serving as President and CEO of a de novo banking platform. She formulated and executed the corporate strategy successfully targeting a multi-national Latin American market and grew the company from 36 employees to over 1,200 employees while maintaining profit margins and diversifying the company’s sources of revenue within 36 months. NADIA GARAS

Nadia Garas is the Project Communications Manager on the $2.2 billion Eagle P3 project in Denver, Colorado and is the Public Involvement Director on the $2 billion South Mountain Freeway project in Phoenix, Arizona. She is results-driven and meticulous, specializing in infrastructure and transportation project communications.  She is an employee of Fluor, a global engineering and construction company, one of the managing and equity partners within the project joint-ventures.

Most recently, Nadia has accepted the offer to lead the Communications program on the $4.9 billion Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Automated People Mover project. She will begin commuting to Los Angeles in September.

Before her time with Fluor, Nadia worked in Public Information on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) US 36 Express Lanes Project, and prior to that, she worked on the I-70 West Twin Tunnels (Veteran Memorial) Project and the Denver International Airport South Terminal Redevelopment Project.

Nadia is a Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure Committee member, a Habitat for Humanity member, a Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation Board member, a Women in Transportation member, and A Precious Child member. She was a featured speaker at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) 2014 Conference, and in the last year was interviewed by Colorado Public Radio.

She has done freelance writing for Fellow Magazine and Westword Magazine. In her free time, this California native enjoys traveling (she takes the A Line to get to the airport – it is very reliable), exploring beautiful Colorado, and spending time with her family and friends.

LESLIE GINSBURG

A Denver native, Leslie Ginsburg graduated from Colorado State University with a BFA, owned and operated a graphic design studio for many years, as well as an art gallery in Cherry Creek North.

As a dedicated community advocate, Leslie has been active in many organizations. She previously served on the board of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) board for 15 years, as well as Jewish Colorado Women’s’ board/committees for more than 20 years. She is a past board member of the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation where she served as the Board Chair from 2013-2014. She also serves as a Board of Director for the Jewish Family Services of Colorado. Leslie has also been involved with the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation for over 25 years and is past Chair of the Board. Her husband Noel was a founding member of the Foundation and Noel and Leslie became a class sponsor for 42 inner city children at South Lincoln Housing Project through the Foundation. Their commitment continued through the Children’s graduation from high school, spanning a period of more than 10 years. Leslie has served on the board since 2007 and served as the Board Chair from 2015-2017.

JANELLE M. JOHNSON, PH.D

Janelle Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Secondary Teacher Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver.   After completing her Master’s degree in 2007, Janelle received her PhD in the department of Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies in 2011 at The University of Arizona after doing research with teachers in Guatemala and Mexico examining the outcomes of US-based capacity building.   (more…)

STEVE KAPLAN

Throughout his professional career, Steve Kaplan has participated in the negotiation of complicated public-private partnerships from several different perspectives: as a client, as counsel to a municipality, and as a representative of the United States government.  Steve specifically focuses on public-private partnerships in the redevelopment of publicly owned property and the structuring of such redevelopment projects involving public financing for infrastructure.  (more…)

SHELBY MARTIN

Shelby Martin is a true litigator with a steadfast goal of solving problems so clients can get back to business. ANTHONY “TONY” PRICE

Tony Price currently serves as Director of Recreation for the University of Colorado at Boulder.   A comprehensive recreational, fitness and wellness service.  In his previous position as Director of Campus Recreation at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Tony oversaw the recreation services and programs of a tri-institutional campus comprised of MSU Denver, Community College of Denver and University of Colorado Denver. RICH RAINALDI

Rich Rainaldi is a partner in Green Spark Ventures, an impact investment firm dedicated to deploying capital into the clean energy, conservation, and regenerative agriculture industries to help accelerate the adoption of strategies that directly address the impact of climate change.

From 1991 to 1998 Rich worked as a program officer for the Piton Foundation in Denver.  The Piton Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of low-income residents in Denver.  At Piton, Rich managed several initiatives in the areas of job training, education, and youth development.

In 1998, Rich left Piton to become the Vice-President of Corporate Relations for U.S. Bank where he was responsible for the company’s corporate philanthropy, sponsorships, media relations, and community relations.  At U.S. Bank, Rich developed several new grant initiatives to support the technology needs of non-profits.

Rich left U.S. Bank in 2000 to start CiviCore.  CiviCore develops customized databases for non-profits across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Australia specializing in mentoring, volunteer management, scholarship, and victim services systems.  Rich sold his interest in CiviCore in 2015 to direct his focus into the field of impact investing.

Rich has served on the board of over a dozen non-profit organizations here in Colorado and across the country including Rebuilding Together USA and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.  Rich is a recipient of the Minoru Yasui Award for Community Service and in 2008 received the William Funk Community Builder Award from the Colorado Nonprofit Association.

Rich holds a degree in Economics from Harvard University and a Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.  Rich is married to Martha Records and has 3 children.  Rich enjoys road biking, cooking, swimming and hiking.

DEREK W. SCHOONOVER

Derek has been helping to lead health care transformation for the last 15 of his 20 year career.  Making his start in software development he has been able to build and grow innovative health care software and business models.

Derek currently serves as the Vice President of Physician Experience and the General Manager of DaVita Physician Solutions.  DaVita is a Fortune 200 Healthcare company where Derek has help increase health related quality of life for DaVita’s patients by focusing on engagement, satisfaction, and technology tools for physicians.

He joined DaVita in 2011 from McKesson Corp where he served as the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development.  Mr. Schoonover joined McKesson in 2007 and has been leading businesses in the high growth ambulatory practice management and electronic health records market for both the small and enterprise physician offices.

Derek started his career at Accenture adapting and implementing software solutions such as SAP.  Mr. Schoonover then pursued the promise of the Internet with a supply chain software start-up which led him to GE Healthcare where he has had a number of leadership roles including the General Manager of the Perioperative and Acute Care business.

Derek brings balanced functional expertise through a background in the development, implementation, sales and marketing of software in a number of different industries including Energy, Manufacturing and Government.  This foundation along with his inpatient and outpatient Healthcare IT business leadership provide a new perspective on healthcare and the power software and process improvement have on patient health, safety and business growth.

 

NEGOU SEID

Negou Seid is an alumni of the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation.  Negou currently serves as a software engineer at Unite Launch Alliance and is the co-founder of  Chizell.  He is passionate about creating meaningful programs for students in the CIHAD program to change the ways they think about their future.  Negou holds a degree in Communication and Ethnic Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Masters in Software Engineering from Regis University.

Negou and his wife Whitney have one son Aden.  In his free time, he enjoys reading, watching movies and traveling with his family.

DAVID A. SIMON

David A. Simon is the Founder and Managing Director of SRS Capital Advisors, Inc., a $600 million-dollar asset management and financial advisory firm which serves high net-worth families and individuals, businesses, and foundations.  Mr. Simon is also Owner and President of SimonDavis Brokerage Services, Inc. a wholesale distributor of financial services products.  In 2015, CNBC recognized SRS Capital Advisors as one of the top 100 Wealth Management firms in the United States.

David earned his MBA from The Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia and a B.S. from Arizona State University.  While attending the University of Virginia, he received advanced training in federal income taxation, estate planning, and gratuitous transfer taxation at the University of Virginia School of Law.  David is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU).  In 2015, David was awarded an honorary appointment as a Visiting Executive Lecturer at the Darden Business School at the University of Virginia.

David is a current or past board member of:   Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation (Past-President), ACE Scholarships, Darden Alumni Board, Parkinson’s Association of the Rockies, Southwest Counseling Associates (Past-President), and NAIFA (Past-President).

David, his wife Julia, and his three sons, Jack, Henry and Thomas now reside in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado where they enjoy skiing, golfing and the other outdoor activities Colorado has to offer.

JAMES H. STAMBAUGH, D.D.S

Jim received his Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology in 1973 from the University of Colorado.  He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 1983 and completed a General Practice Residency program in 1984 at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

A Denver native, Dr. Stambaugh practiced general dentistry 29 years in Denver prior to joining Cody Dental group in 2013.  He is a member of the American Dental Association. He has the Elevate Dental study Club.  Dr. Stambaugh is the dental representative on the Medical advisory Board for the Cherry Creek School District.

Dr. Stambaugh was previously a clinical instructor at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry.

Dr. Stambaugh enjoys golf, fly-fishing, photography and skiing.  He is the Past President of the Rotary Club Southeast and is involved with several projects of the Rotary Club. He and his wife, Lynn, enjoy their four grown children and seven grandchildren.

MICHELLE VERCILLINO

Michelle is the Chief Information Officer for The IMA Financial Group, Inc., leading the company in enabling innovative business solutions through supporting technologies and partnering with The IMA Financial Group’s business units and subsidiaries to facilitate growth, scalability and operational efficiencies.

Prior to joining IMAFG in early 2017, Michelle was a Practice Area Leader at Slalom Consulting responsible for Strategy & Operations.  Her career includes driving revenue growth, transformative technology implementations, asset creation, client management and delivery excellence- with an inclusive focus on helping companies solve challenging problems and create effective solutions to increase customer value.  Her clients have included companies in the telecommunications, high-tech, banking, fast casual restaurants, and energy industries.

Before joining Slalom, Michelle served as the Vice President of Support Operations for the nation’s largest independent provider of ATM services.  She oversaw contact and technology centers, field operations analytics, business restructuring and large process improvement initiatives.

Michelle earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from The University of Colorado in Boulder, with an emphasis concentrated on analytics, operations and international business.  She is a certified Lean and Six Sigma Master Black Belt.  Michelle is also a board member of The Civic Canopy and Colorado I Have A Dream Foundation.

RUSTY WEHNER

Rusty is a founding board member of the Colorado I Have A Dream Foundation (1988).  He has been a real estate professional in the Denver area since 1983.  Throughout his entire career, Rusty has been recognized by the Denver Board of Realtors as a “top producer”.  Currently, he is a senior loan officer for SWBC Mortgage.

A Denver native, Rusty graduated from East High School in 1978 and from CU Boulder in 1983, with at BA in Economics and Business.

Rusty enjoys coaching soccer, riding bicycles (mountain and road), golf, traveling, and fixing up old home back to their former glory.  He and his wife, Frances, have two grown sons Zachary and Ian.

RICHARD WEILL

Dick Weill retired in 2004 from a number of senior roles at MBIA, a financial guaranty insurance company, having been President and Vice Chairman. Prior to joining MBIA, he was an attorney in private practice at the Omaha-based law firm of Kutak Rock for 20 years. Dick and his wife acted as sponsors of a Dreamer Class based initially at North Lincoln Housing Project that commenced in 2007. He has also acted as Treasurer of CIHAD.

SARAH M. WRIGHT

Sarah M. Wright represents real estate, development, and business clients in a variety of real estate transactions, including purchase and sale, title and survey, and leasing. Sarah strives to tailor her legal services to the particular needs of her clients. She often draws on her past experience as part of the firm’s litigation group in order to counsel clients on potential legal issues with a forward-thinking perspective.

Prior to joining the firm, Sarah served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Diana L. Terry on the Colorado Court of Appeals, where she gained valuable research and writing experience, as well as exposure to diverse areas of civil and criminal law.

Sarah graduated in the top 10 percent of her class from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where she attended on a Chancellor’s Scholarship–a full-tuition scholarship awarded for academic excellence and public service.  She served as the executive editor on the Denver University Law Review. Her student note, “The Effect of Booker on Federal Sentence Modification Proceedings:  How the Tenth Circuit Got it Right in Rhodes,” 87 Denv. U. L. Rev. 771, was selected for publication.

During law school, Sarah worked as a law clerk in both a small firm focusing on family and employment law and a large Philadelphia-based firm, focusing her efforts in commercial litigation.  She volunteered as a judicial intern to the Honorable C. Jean Stewart and interned at Colorado Legal Services in the Family and Children unit.  Sarah also participated in her school’s Civil Litigation Clinic, where she represented indigent day laborers to recover unpaid wages under the Colorado Wage Claim Act.

Prior to attending law school, Sarah worked at the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania as part of the AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer In Service to America) program.

LOAN VO ZWYER

LoAn Vo has extensive background in financial and entrepreneurial experiences. Ms. Vo started TransCrude LLC and has been successfully growing the company. Ms. Vo is also currently the President of DragonFire Capital LLC., and investment consulting firm specializing in Oil and Gas Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Markets. Previously, Ms. Vo worked as an Investment Banker for WG Nielsen & Co and LJS Capital where she gained Oil and Gas clients on capital raises and M&A transactions.

Prior to heading up TransCrude, Ms. Vo has worked as a wealth management advisor at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney where she worked with high net worth investors both corporate and private clients. Ms. Vo has vast entrepreneurial experiences by working with startup companies to get setup and into operations. Ms. Vo received a BS in Biology from the University of Denver and an MBA from the Daniels College of Business at DU.
